Location
Valladolid is located in the
centre of Spain, 200 kilometres north-west of Madrid. It
is the capital of the autonomous region of Castilla y
León. It has a population of 321.001 inhabitants.

The most probable origin of
Valladolid seems to stem from the Celtic expression
Vallis tolitum (Valley of Water), since it is in the
confluence of two rivers. During the centuries XII and
XIII Valladolid experienced a fast growth, favoured by
the commercial privileges granted by the monarchs
Alfonso VIII and Alfonso X The Wise one. In 1346 the
Pope Clemente VI allows the creation of the University,
the second oldest in Spain.
The city attracts tourists
because of ancient churches, museums, monuments,
Valladolid International Film Festival in October, Holy
Week processions at Easter ,and a riotous fiesta in the
second week of September
(here
for more tourism information). Valladolid has a good
balance of art and architecture patrimony and industry
(car and agro- food sectors) and
wineries of high reputation
Accommodation
The Organization offers
three hotels which are centrally located and at a
walking distance of the Conference
venue. But there are many other hotels in
Valladolid. You should make the booking directly with
the hotels. Please note that the local fiestas take
place within the conference week. After the 20^th of
June there is no guarantee that there will be rooms
available.
